Amitabh Bachchan – KBC Brings Back Memories of His Ancestral Village Babu Patti

Amitabh Bachchan – A mention of Babu Patti on Kaun Banega Crorepati recently took Amitabh Bachchan back to his family’s roots in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district. During the episode, contestant Chandra Prakash Tiwari mentioned his connection with the Pratapgarh region, prompting Bachchan to recall that Babu Patti was the ancestral village of his family and the birthplace of his father, renowned Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. The conversation also gave the actor an opportunity to address the delayed opening of a library intended for children in the village.

Bachchan recalls his family connection

As soon as Babu Patti was mentioned, Bachchan spoke warmly about his ancestral association with the village. He recalled that his father had come from the area and described it as the birthplace of his ancestors.

The actor then turned to a project that has been associated with his family for years. He explained that the idea of creating a library for children came from his wife, Jaya Bachchan, after she visited the village and noticed that young residents lacked a suitable place to study and read.

According to Amitabh, the library building has already been constructed, but the facility has not yet become fully operational because of unresolved hurdles. He used the KBC platform to directly address people from Babu Patti and apologise for the delay.

Amitabh promises the library will open

Bachchan assured residents that the project would be completed and asked them not to worry about the delay. He explained that while the building is ready, it still needs to be equipped with the resources required for children to use it properly.

His comments brought renewed attention to the condition and functioning of the library, which was established in memory of his father. Rather than simply recalling his family history, Bachchan used the television appearance to acknowledge the unfinished work and reassure the village that the facility would eventually be put to use.

Babu Patti and the Bachchan family legacy

Babu Patti is located in Raniganj tehsil of Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh and has a close connection with the Bachchan family. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, one of the most celebrated figures in modern Hindi literature and Amitabh Bachchan’s father, was born in the village.

The family’s association with the area has continued to attract public attention because of Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s literary legacy and Amitabh’s stature in Indian cinema. The village is part of the wider Pratapgarh region, which is now associated with the Prayagraj area.

Library was inaugurated in 2006

The Dr Harivansh Rai Bachchan Memorial Library was inaugurated in Babu Patti in 2006 after Jaya Bachchan visited the village. The facility was established as a memorial to the celebrated poet and was intended to provide a useful reading and study space for local children.

Over the years, reports have raised concerns about the library’s condition and its functioning. Amitabh Bachchan’s recent remarks on KBC have once again brought the project into focus, particularly his assurance that the building will eventually be equipped and opened for children.

For the Bachchan family, Babu Patti remains an important link to their ancestral history, and the library represents an effort to connect that legacy with the educational needs of children in the village.
