Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan became emotional while speaking about the irreplaceable place of a mother in a child’s life during the latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati.
The actor was interacting with contestant Kapila Taneja, who opened up about being separated from her daughter for more than 24 years. Kapila, who hails from Chhattisgarh and is a survivor of domestic violence, told Bachchan that she had neither heard her daughter’s voice nor met her for more than two decades.
When asked why she had been unable to meet her daughter, Kapila said she had repeatedly requested her husband, in-laws and even a judge to allow her to meet and speak to her daughter or provide her contact number.
She also told Bachchan that she had prayed for her daughter every day and requested him to give her a few words of blessings.
Moved by her account, Bachchan expressed hope that the programme could help Kapila reconnect with her daughter. He told her that he hoped she would not feel alone and emphasised the unique place a mother holds in a child’s life.
Reflecting on the significance of motherhood, Bachchan said the word “maa” carries immense emotional and social value for a child and urged Kapila’s daughter to recognise that her mother was still alive and waiting to connect with her.
“Aashirwad dene layak hum nahi hain, lekin iss karyakram ke dwara unka sampark ho aapka,” Bachchan said, expressing hope that the show could help bring the mother and daughter together.
The actor has often spoken about his close bond with his late mother, Teji Bachchan, who died in 2007.
