On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level meeting with Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to assess the flood situation caused by continuous heavy rainfall.
Following sudden flooding in Rajouri district, Shah reached out to the local administration for emergency relief and rescue operations. In a post on X, he assured that he had discussed the conditions arising from the heavy rains with the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister, promising all possible assistance from the central government.
Emergency Rescues in Rajouri
Emergency responders successfully rescued two individuals trapped due to rapidly rising water levels in the Muradpur area of Rajouri. Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma reported that the rescue teams acted promptly to ensure the safety of the individuals who were stranded after the sudden flooding. The district administration has advised residents to avoid rivers, streams, and areas prone to flooding, as the water levels have risen dangerously due to the ongoing rainfall. Sharma urged the public to adhere to government advisories and refrain from non-essential travel until the weather and flood conditions improve.
Rescue Operations Underway
Authorities also launched a rescue operation to save local youths stranded in the middle of the Tawi River due to the sudden rise in water levels. The Jammu police and the National Disaster Response Force quickly evacuated those trapped. In light of the severe flooding and heavy rainfall in Rajouri and surrounding areas, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah initiated a high-level review to oversee emergency relief efforts. He posted on X that he has been closely monitoring the situation since early morning, particularly in Rajouri city and nearby regions, and is in contact with local legislators. While conditions are still evolving, the administration’s top priority remains to save lives.
