Ambubachi Mela 2026: There is a temple of Maa Kamakhya Devi on Nilanchal mountain in Guwahati, Assam. This temple is considered one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Mother Goddess. There is a mythological belief that the vagina part of Mother Sati had fallen here. This temple of Assam holds many mysteries in itself. It is said that this is the only temple in the country where Mother Goddess is the presiding deity. That means their menstruation starts. During this time the doors of the temple are closed. Because it is believed that this is the time of mother’s rest.

During this time, Ambubachi fair is organized outside the temple. The organization of this fair is included in the major religious events of Assam. A large number of devotees from all over the country and the world come to this fair. Along with this, a crowd of sages, saints and tantrikas also gathers. Ambubachi fair will start from tonight. Tonight at 09:08 minutes 42 seconds ‘Pravriti’ ritual will take place and with this the doors of the temple will be closed.

When will the doors of the temple open?

After this, there will be regular puja (retirement) in the morning on 26th. Then after this the temple will be opened for the devotees to visit and the devotees will be able to have darshan and worship of the Mother Goddess. In the sanctum sanctorum of this temple, no idol is worshipped, but a vagina shaped stone is worshipped, from which water keeps flowing. Before the beginning of the Ambubachi fair, the priest places white Angavastra near the stone in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Angodaka clothes will be available in Prasad

Then the doors of the temple are closed. It is believed that at the time of Goddess’s rest, the world receives new energy. During this time the water of Brahmaputra river also becomes red in colour. When the doors of the temple open, the underwear kept near the stone turns red. It is called Ambubachi cloth or Angodak cloth. This same cloth is distributed as Prasad to the devotees. This year too, after opening the doors of the temple, Angodak clothes will be given to the devotees.

Ambubachi fair is a wonderful confluence of religious event as well as power, faith and respect for nature. During this time, sages, saints and tantrics perform sadhana here, which gives them special benefits.
