Kamakhya Temple Ambubachi Mela 2026: Kamakhya Devi Temple is situated on Nilanchal Mountain in Guwahati, Assam. This temple is considered one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. There is a religious and mythological belief that the vagina part of Goddess Sati had fallen here. There is no idol of the goddess in this temple. A vagina shaped stone is worshiped in the temple, which is considered a symbol of female power and the source of life. Ambubachi fair is held here every year. It is counted among the biggest and important religious events of Eastern India.
This year the Ambubachi fair is going to start from 22nd June. Preparations for the fair are being done in full swing. According to the temple administration, ‘Pravriti’ ritual will take place on June 22 at 9.08 minutes 42 seconds. With this the fair will begin. Along with this, the beginning of the annual menstruation i.e. menstrual period of Mother Kamakhya will also be considered. The temple administration is making preparations to welcome lakhs of devotees, saints and tourists coming from India and abroad.
Kamakhya Devi’s doors will remain closed for three days
After the start of the rituals, the doors of the temple will be closed for three days. This symbolizes the seclusion of the goddess during her menstrual period. There will be no worship during this period. Devotees will also not get darshan of Kamakhya Devi. Regular puja (daily puja) will be completed on the morning of 26th June. Only after this the doors of the temple will be reopened, after which devotees will be allowed to have darshan and worship the goddess.
Recognition of Ambubachi Fair
When the doors of the temple reopen, the sacred Angavastra is given to the devotees as Prasad. It is believed that Ambubachi fair is also related to Tantra Sadhana. During the fair, a large number of Tantrik, Sadhaks and saints reach Kamakhya Dham and perform special Tantrik Sadhana and puja. It is believed that the meditation done during this period gives special spiritual results. Ambubachi fair is not just a religious event, but it is a wonderful confluence of power, faith and respect for nature. Every year lakhs of devotees become a part of this event.
