Amarnath Yatra resumes after bad weather
Amarnath Yatra has resumed after being suspended for six days due to heavy rains and bad weather. On Saturday, a new batch of pilgrims left for Kashmir Valley from Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp in Jammu amid tight security arrangements.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration had suspended yatra on both Pahalgam and Baltal routes to ensure the safety of pilgrims on July 19 after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning of heavy rain in the Union Territory.
The convoy carrying the pilgrims left Jammu Base Camp early in the morning and successfully crossed Udhampur while heading towards Kashmir Valley.
Pahalgam road closed, permission to go only from Baltal
Authorities have allowed pilgrims originating from Jammu Base Camp to travel only through the Baltal route. However, the alternate Pahalgam route is still closed for movement as bad weather is affecting the track condition in that area.
The pilgrimage has been resumed after a six-day suspension by authorities after reviewing the weather and ground conditions.
The 57-day Amarnath Yatra began on July 3 and will conclude on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan. The annual Amarnath Yatra attracts thousands of devotees from across the country who make the pilgrimage to the sacred cave shrine in South Kashmir.
