Amarnath Shivling Mystery: There is great news for the devotees hoping to have the darshan of Baba Barfani situated in the lap of Himalayas. The dates of Amarnath Yatra for the year 2026 have been announced. This year this holy journey is starting from 3rd July 2026. But have you ever wondered why the sacred Shivalinga built in the Amarnath cave waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon? Let us know about the wonderful confluence of faith and science behind it.
What is the secret of ice Shivalinga?
The Shivalinga formed in the Amarnath cave is completely natural, which is formed by the freezing of ice drops. The water dripping from the roof of the cave freezes in extremely cold temperatures and gradually takes the shape of Shivalinga. According to religious belief, this Shivalinga increases and decreases according to the phases of the moon. Its size is largest during the full moon, while it becomes smaller around the new moon. Devotees consider it a divine miracle of Lord Shiva.
faith vs science
While on one hand devotees consider it to be the grace and miracle of Lord Shiva, on the other hand scientists call it a natural process. According to science, the temperature, humidity and the process of freezing and melting of water inside the cave are the reasons behind this change. However, these things do not diminish the faith of the people, because it has remained the center of tradition and belief for centuries.
