The controversy surrounding Kushal Tandon’s remark about his former girlfriend Gauahar Khan on the reality show Alliance refuses to die down. After the actor drew criticism for referring talking disrespectfully about Gauahar while speaking to her husband, Zaid Darbar, his sister Tina Tandon has now come to his defence. In a recent interview, Tina dismissed the backlash as unnecessary social media sensationalism and insisted that people were making assumptions without knowing the full context of the conversation. She also praised Kushal’s friendship with Zaid and said the incident had been blown out of proportion.
Kushal Tandon’s sister reacts to controversy
Speaking to Pinkvilla, Tina Tandon addressed the criticism directed at her brother following his controversial comment about Gauahar Khan on Alliance. She argued that the controversy had been amplified by social media, saying, “I am sorry but social media or whatever, yaha na bahot zyada flair up ho jata hain cheezon ko. Unnecessarily because it is Kushal… Kushal everywhere, toh sab kood jayenge ki iss cheez se hume fame milna hain. Iss cheez se unhe TRP milegi, iss se publicity lena hain.”
(Translation: Social media tends to exaggerate everything. Since it’s Kushal, everyone jumps in because it brings them fame, publicity and TRPs.)
Gauahar Khan And Zaid Darbar
Defending her brother further, Tina said people should avoid making judgments without understanding the complete context of what happened between Kushal and Zaid. She said, “I don’t understand why people are quoting one line without context. Gauahar is a beautiful and adorable woman, and I have known her for years. Tagging people unnecessarily is pointless.” Calling it a joke, she said that the matter has been blown out of proportion without anyone knowing what really happened behind the scenes. According to Tina, the exchange may have been light-hearted, and outsiders should not rush to conclusions based on a brief clip.
Tina also said that people were creating stories around the incident simply because it generated attention.
She remarked that these stories are created for sensationalism and also revealed that she loves Kushal’s bond with Zaid in the show.
Kushal Tandon’s comment about Gauahar Khan that sparked the controversy
The backlash began during an episode of Alliance when Kushal Tandon was seen telling Zaid Darbar, “Tujhe meri cheezein pasand aati hain,” which translates to, “You like my things.” Since Gauahar Khan is Kushal’s former girlfriend and is now married to Zaid, many viewers found the remark disrespectful and objected to referring to a woman as a ‘thing.’

Following the controversy, Alliance producer Banijay Asia shared a video featuring Zaid Darbar apologising to Gauahar Khan. In the clip, Zaid admitted that he had taken the remark too lightly and said he regretted not reacting differently. He apologised to his wife, saying he never intended to hurt her or anyone else and hoped she understood his intentions.
Gauahar has since come out in support of Zaid as well as endorsed Tina’s statement, calling her ‘Di’ and adding that maturity and respect is not everyone’s calling.
