Battling death-like waves for 11 hours on the mysterious sea route of Ram Setu, Bengaluru IT couple Danish Abdi and Vrushali Prasade created history by completing a 32KM open-water swim from Sri Lanka to India. This record made between Palk Strait, Dhanushkodi, Talaimannar and dangerous sea currents is now a sensation on social media.
Ram Setu Swim Challenge: When the intentions are steel and there is trust from the spouse, then even the huge waves of the ocean start appearing small. Danish Abdi and Vrushali Prasade, an IT professional couple from Bengaluru, have done something similar which has not only shocked the sports world but has also set a new example for adventure lovers. The pair swam the distance from Sri Lanka to India through the historic ‘Ram Setu’ route (Palk Strait), becoming the first couple in the world to do so.
Depths of Darkness and a Brave Beginning
That morning of 7th May was not like any other day. At 4:30 in the morning, when the world was fast asleep, Danish and Vrushali stood on the shore of Talaimannar, Sri Lanka. In front was the infinite black sea and its terrifying roar. In the presence of the security team, Danish took the first jump into deep water and after him Vrushali also started this difficult mission. The target was Dhanushkodi in Tamil Nadu, which was about 32 kilometers away.

When nature took a tough test of patience
As the sun began to rise, the challenges of the Palk Strait began to emerge. This journey in the middle of the sea was no less than a nightmare. In the video that went viral on social media, it can be clearly seen how the couple was struggling with high waves, changing winds and strong ocean currents. The current of the sea was so strong that it was repeatedly trying to divert them from their intended path. Swimming against the currents was not only physically tiring, but it was also a big battle mentally. But both of them maintained each other’s morale and responded to every hit of water with their strong strokes.
Security cordon and 11-hour struggle
No stone was left unturned in security during this historic visit. Indian Coast Guard personnel, experienced paramedics and aid boats followed them like shadows all the way. After a continuous struggle of about 10 hours and 45 minutes, Danish and Vrushali touched down on the Indian coast at around 3:15 pm. As soon as they reached the shore, there was a glow of victory in their eyes and a feeling of pride despite the fatigue on their body.
From software coding to swimming records
The most surprising thing about this achievement is that Danish and Vrushali are not professional athletes, but software professionals. He began seriously training in open-water swimming just four years ago. By spending time throughout the day among office files and coding, he prepared himself to such a level that today he has registered his name in the pages of history. His victory is being described on social media as the biggest example of ‘discipline and teamwork’. This couple has now become an inspiration for thousands of youth who want to muster the courage to live their dreams along with their desk jobs.
