The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rain in Himachal Pradesh till August 2. There is Orange and Yellow alert in many districts including Shimla, Solan. Expressing fear of landslides and floods, the department has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel.
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [भारत]July 27 (ANI): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh till August 2, urging people to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel as monsoon remains active across the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, widespread rainfall was recorded over many districts during the last 24 hours, with Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu and Kangra receiving notable rainfall. Khandaghat in Solan district recorded the highest rainfall during this period.
Meteorologist gave this warning
Sandeep Kumar Sharma, senior scientist, IMD Shimla, said active monsoon conditions are expected to continue with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over many districts. “During the last 24 hours, districts including Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kullu and Kangra have received widespread rainfall. Khandaghat recorded the highest rainfall. Monsoon remains active and heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue at isolated places over the next few days,” Sharma said.
He said the IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for different districts depending on the expected intensity of rain and warned that the weather conditions could lead to flash floods, landslides, mudslides, waterlogging and rise in water levels of rivers and streams, especially in vulnerable and hilly areas.
Advice for people and tourists
Sharma advised residents and tourists to stay updated with the official weather forecasts and follow advisories issued by the IMD and the district administration. “We advise people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, especially in landslide-prone areas. Tourists and local residents should closely monitor weather updates and follow all official advisories to ensure their safety,” he said.
The IMD also warned that heavy rains could disrupt road connectivity, impact essential services and increase the risk of landslides at vulnerable locations.
Officials have urged the district administration to remain alert and take all necessary precautionary measures as active monsoon spells are expected to continue over Himachal Pradesh in the coming days.
The Himachal Pradesh government has also urged residents and tourists to follow weather advisories. (ANI)
