IPL 2027 Trade: Even before the IPL 2027 auction, the stir regarding exchange of players among the franchises has intensified. A big news is coming out regarding Chennai Super Kings which is preparing its team afresh for the upcoming season. According to reports, the management of Lucknow Super Giants has contacted CSK and made a big offer to trade India’s star fast bowler Mohammed Shami in exchange for young aggressive batsman Urvil Patel.
Urvil Patel in place of Mohammed Shami
According to media reports, Lucknow Super Giants team wants to include Urvil Patel in its team to strengthen its batting line-up. In return, Lucknow is fully prepared to release its experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami and send him to the Yellow Army. Let us tell you, Urvil Patel was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025 auction for only Rs 30 lakh. In the 2025 season, he got a chance in only 3 innings where he scored 68 runs. However, when young batsman Ayush Mhatre got injured in IPL 2026, Urveel got a chance to play at number 3. Urveel capitalized on this opportunity and scored 129 runs at a strike rate of 201.5 and left his aggressive mark.
But after the return of Ayush Mhatre in the next season, it may be difficult for Urvil Patel to get a place in the playing 11. In such a situation, if CSK can accept this trade, then they will get an experienced and match-winning bowler like Mohammed Shami. Chennai is in dire need of an experienced Indian fast bowler to support Khaleel Ahmed in the powerplay and death overs. Shami’s arrival will give new strength to their fast bowling unit with the presence of Spencer Johnson and Matt Henry.
Shami was traded only last season
Mohammed Shami came to Lucknow Super Giants from Sunrisers Hyderabad before the IPL 2026 season. Shami started the season in great style, however, there was a slight decline in his form in the later matches. He took 12 wickets in 13 matches of IPL 2026 with an economy of 9.00. Now Lucknow is planning to leave a veteran like Shami to make its top order aggressive. The reason for which is also Rishabh Pant, who has now joined the Delhi team.
