Box Office Blast: Did Mahaakshay Chakraborty’s ‘Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past’ give Kangana Ranaut a big shock? Did the horror film leave behind the films of Diljit Dosanjh and Manoj Bajpayee? Has the 15 year old record been broken? Is entry into the 8-10 crore club certain this weekend? Have horror films returned to rule the box office?
There was a clash of popular films in Hindi cinema this Friday. The special thing is that once again the horror genre has proved its strength. Mithun Chakraborty’s son Mahaakshay Chakraborty aka Mimoh’s ‘Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past’ gave the biggest surprise. In terms of opening, this film overshadowed Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata’, Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘I Will Be Back’ and Manoj Bajpayee’s ‘Governor’. If compared with Kangana Ranaut’s film alone, ‘Haunted 3D’ collected 150 percent more money on the first day.
How much did ‘Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past’ earn on its first day?
According to trade reports, ‘Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past’, directed by Vikram Bhatt, made a net collection of around Rs 2.50 crore in India on the first day, while its gross earning was Rs 2.95 crore. On the first day, 2907 shows of this film were shown across the country. The film has been released in Hindi as well as Telugu. The Hindi version of the film has earned Rs 2.45 crore and the Telugu version has earned Rs 5 lakh on the first day. If we talk about occupancy, overall it was 31.37 percent on the first day. The highest occupancy of 39.15 percent was in night shows.
First day earnings of remaining three films released on Friday
‘I’ll be back’: Rs 1.15 crore
‘India’s destiny creator’: 1 crore rupees
‘Governor’: 90 lakh rupees
If we look at it accordingly, ‘Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past’ has earned 117 percent more than ‘Main Baashkar Aagaunga’, 150 percent more than ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhaata’ and about 178 percent more than ‘Governor’.
Original film’s record broken after 15 years
Mahaakshay Chakraborty’s ‘Haunted 3D’, released in 2011, had earned Rs 2.25 crore on the first day and was considered a big success at that time. Now, after 15 years, ‘Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past’ has left behind the opening of its own franchise. This achievement is also special because currently the film faces competition from many big releases simultaneously.
The film can move towards 8 crore club on the weekend
Trade circles believe that the film is getting good response in night shows. If the viewership increases on Saturday and Sunday, the film can touch the earning figure of Rs 8-10 crore in the first weekend. The popularity and positive word of mouth of the horror genre seem to be in favor of the film. In such a situation, the coming two days can prove to be very important for ‘Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past’.
