Adhikmas Purnima Fast 2026: Adhikamas, also known as Purushottam month, has a special and very sacred place in Hindu religion. Since this month comes only once every three years, the full moon falling during this period is called Purushottam Purnima. According to religious beliefs, the results of fasting, worship and donations done on this day are many times more than that of a normal Purnima. According to Drik Panchang, this year Adhikamas Purnima fast will be observed on 30th May and Purnima bath and donation will be done on the next day.

Why will Purnima fast be observed only on 30th May?

In the Hindu calendar, moonrise date is given special importance for Purnima fast. That is, on the day when the moon is visible at night on Purnima Tithi, Purnima fast is observed on the same day. According to the Panchang, this year the full moon date of Adhikamas i.e. Jyeshtha will start on 30 May 2026 at 11:57 am and will end on 31 May 2026 at 2:14 pm. On the night of 30th May, the moon will rise on Purnima Tithi, hence Purnima fast will be observed on 30th May, Saturday. Since 31st May is the Purnima Tithi at the time of sunrise, bathing in holy rivers, charity and religious activities will be considered to have special significance on this day.

Worship method of Adhikamas Purnima

Adhikamas Purnima On this day, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, worship Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi in the home temple. Offer yellow flowers, Tulsi leaves, Panchamrit and bhog to Lord Vishnu. At the same time, offering raw milk, white flowers and Akshat to Moon God is considered auspicious. When the moon rises in the evening, offer Arghya and break the fast. Reciting Vishnu Sahasranama, Shrimadbhagvadgita or Satyanarayan Katha on this day is also considered very fruitful.

What donation is considered auspicious on this day?

Special importance of donation has been given on Adhikamas Purnima. On this day, donating white clothes, rice, milk, sugar, ghee, moon related items and food to the needy is considered auspicious. It is believed that donation done with devotion removes negativity from a person’s life and one receives special blessings of Lord Vishnu.

Religious significance of Adhikamas Purnima

Adhikamas is considered to be the favorite month of Lord Vishnu. It is also called Purushottam month. According to religious beliefs, the results of chanting, penance, fasting and charity done in this month increase manifold. Purnima Tithi itself is considered to be associated with Moon God, hence worshiping Moon God along with Lord Vishnu on this day also has special significance.

This full moon is also considered very auspicious for those who are going through financial problems, family tension or mental unrest.
