Adhik Mass 2026: These days Adhikamaas is going on. This month comes every third year. In Sanatan tradition, not only the calculation of dates, but also the science of cosmic balance is considered very important. Adhikamas is considered to be the most amazing example of this science. Adhikamaas, which started from 17th May, will continue till 15th June. Auspicious and auspicious works are not done in Adhikamas. This time is considered the best time for penance, meditation and devotion.

This month is considered a special opportunity to get the blessings of Lord Vishnu. The basis of Adhikamas is hidden in ancient astronomy. The movement of both the Sun and the Moon is considered to be the basis of the Hindu calendar. The solar year is considered to be 365 days and the lunar year is considered to be about 354 days. Thus, there is a difference of 11 days every year between the solar and lunar years. In three years this difference becomes 33 days.

according to legend…

At that time an additional month is added to balance the calendar and seasonal cycles. This is called Adhikamas, Purushottam month or Malamas. According to the legend, when it became Adhikamas, no god or goddess was ready to give it their name or ownership. Every god considered this month impure and rejected it.

Lord Vishnu gave his name

Every month was ruled by some god or goddess, but Adhikamas had no master. Then, feeling sad, Adhikamas reached Lord Vishnu. Then Lord Vishnu gave it his name. Since, God is called Purushottam. Therefore it came to be known as Purushottam month. Along with giving his name to Adhikamas, Lord Vishnu also gave a boon.

Lord Vishnu told Adhikamas that now he would be called the best among all the months. Whoever does devotion in Adhikamaas will get more and special virtues. According to the scriptures, worship, chanting and penance should be done during Adhikamaas.
