Adhik Maas Jyeshtha 2026: Do you know the special significance of 33 numbers in Malmaas, which washes away all sins?

Purushottam month 2026

Purushottam Month: This year there are two elders. Adhikamas Jyeshtha is one of the most sacred and auspicious months of the Hindu lunar calendar. This is different from the normal elder. This Adhikamas is a special additional month that comes once every three years based on the movement of the Sun and the Moon. It is also known as Adhikamas or Purushottam month. In some cases it is also called Malmas. This is what famous astrologer Dr. Basavaraj Guruji has to say.

According to Guruji, Jyestha means elder. It is the biggest and holiest month among all the months. According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Adhik Jyeshtha will last from 17 May to 15 June 2026. There is a saying, Adhikasya Adhik Falam, that is, religious activities done in this month yield good results.

How did Purushottam month get its name? Every month has one lord, but when the gods hesitated in taking the responsibility of the additional month, Lord Vishnu himself took over the management of this month, hence it is called Purushottam month. Vishnu himself is the lord of this entire month.

Rituals performed in the month of Adhik Jyestha

This month is very auspicious for the worship of Lord Vishnu. During this time, chanting, worship, fasting and donating give immense virtue and paves the way for attaining auspicious yoga. The results of the deeds done in Jyeshtha are ten times more than the results of worship and chanting done in other months.

Recitation of Vishnu Sahasranama: Recite Vishnu Sahasranama daily or in the evening.

Mantra chanting: Chant Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya Mantra as much as possible. People of all twelve zodiac signs can chant this.

Scripture text: Reciting or listening to Bhagavad Gita or Bhagavatam.

Remembrance: Continuous chanting of Vishnu’s name is auspicious.

Charity: Giving food to the poor and helping the needy is a very virtuous act.

Special importance of 33rd number in Adhikamas Jyeshtha

Guruji said that number 33 has special significance in this month. It is believed that by chanting mantras 33 times throughout the month, donating 33 items, giving food or prasad to 33 people and lighting 33 lamps, one gets the blessings of 33 crore gods. The principle behind this is that sins are washed away by donating.

However, auspicious rituals like marriage, upanayana, house warming and naming are not performed in Adhikamas Jyeshtha. The reason for this is that in this month more emphasis is given on earning virtue rather than worldly activities. This month is dedicated to the worship of God and the test of devotion. Guruji has advised that this month is helpful in achieving auspicious results and peace and prosperity in life through worship of Vishnu, chanting, penance and charity.
