Abhishek Sharma created history and broke several world records with the second century of his career in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday (April 21) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The 26-year-old scored an unbeaten 135 runs off just 68 balls in a knock that included 10 boundaries and as many sixes at a strike rate of 198.53.
SRH posted a huge total of 242 on the board while losing just two wickets after the Capitals won the toss and chose to bowl. Alongside Abhishek’s heroics, Heinrich Klaasen played a crucial cameo of 37 runs in just 13 balls to give the 2016 champions a quick-fire finish. Earlier, Travis Head made a 26-ball 37 while putting up a 97-run opening stand with Abhishek.
Abhishek Sharma Sets World Record
This is the fourth instance of Abhishek scoring a 130+ knock in his T20 career. Before today, he hit 141 runs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in last year’s IPL in what was his first century for SRH. Last year (2025), he also made a knock of 137 for India against England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium alongside a 52-ball 148 for Punjab against Bengal in Hyderabad during the Syed Musthaq Ali Trophy.
The Indian star is the first player in the world to achieve the rare feat. He broke a world record that was shared by Chris Gayle and Aaron Finch.

Meanwhile, Abhishek is also the first player in IPL history to have two scores of over 130 runs. He features twice in the top five highest individual scores in the league’s history over the last 19 editions. Each of the top two highest scores by an Indian batter belongs to the Indian cricket star. Overall, there have been seven instances of a player crossing the 130 mark in IPL history.

Ab de Villiers and Gayle have been the closest previously to scoring two knocks above 130. Alongside the abovementioned knocks, de Villiers once made 129 runs against Gujarat Lions in 2016 at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium while Gayle hit a 62-ball 128 against Delhi Daredevils in 2012.

Abhishek also now has the highest individual score against the Capitals in IPL’s rich history. He broke Gayle’s record, which was set in 2012, while Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson are next on the list.
