AAP clarified on Tahir Hussain, said- no connection with the party since 2020. AAP Clarifies On Tahir Hussain Says He Has No Association Since 2020

AAP has given clarification on the punishment of Tahir Hussain in Delhi riots. The party said that Hussain was suspended in February 2020 itself and since then he has nothing to do with the party. Hussain has been convicted in the murder case of IB officer Ankit Sharma.

New Delhi [भारत]July 14 (ANI): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday issued a clarification on the conviction of former councilor Tahir Hussain in the murder case of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma during the 2020 north-east Delhi riots. The party said Hussain has no connection with the party after he was suspended from primary membership in February 2020.

In a statement, AAP said Tahir Hussain had contested the Delhi Assembly elections as an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate from the Muslim-dominated Mustafabad constituency, where his candidature divided the Muslim votes and ultimately helped the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate win the seat.

The party further said that within hours of the FIR being filed against Hussain in the 2020 Delhi riots case, he was suspended from the primary membership of the party on February 27, 2020.

“Since then, he has no connection with AAP,” the party said.

Karkardooma court sentenced

The clarification came after the Karkardooma court on Monday convicted Tahir Hussain and four others in the murder case of IB employee Ankit Sharma, who was killed during the February 2020 north-east Delhi riots.

Sharma’s body was recovered from a drain after he went missing during the violence. The case was registered at Dayalpur police station on a complaint filed by his father Ravinder Kumar.

Additional Sessions Judge Parveen Singh convicted Hussain, Nazim, Qasim, Javed and Anas of rioting, unlawful assembly and other offences. Hussain was also convicted of promoting enmity between two communities, while the court acquitted the accused of criminal conspiracy charges. Six other accused were acquitted of all charges.

In March 2023, the Karkardooma court had framed charges against Hussain and other accused under various provisions of the IPC, including sections related to murder, rioting, promoting enmity between communities and criminal conspiracy.

The case was registered at Dayalpur police station on February 26, 2020, on the complaint of Ankit Sharma’s father Ravinder Kumar, who alleged that Sharma had gone missing during the violence near Chand Bagh, after which his body was recovered from a nearby drain.

The complaint also alleged violence including stone pelting, arson and firing in the area during clashes between anti-CAA and pro-CAA groups. (ANI)
