Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots NOT Re-Releasing In Theatres Amid Students Protest, Makers Confirm In Official Statement

Aamir Khan strarrer 3 Idiots is not re-releasing in the theatres anytime soon. The makers of the film have officially announced and quashed the false reports suggesting the release amid the students protest. According to the rumours, the film was supposed to hit theatres once again on September 4, 2026. 3 Idiots is an all-time classic; it won over the fans’ hearts when it was released and still continues to do so. Recently, the lead actor Aamir Khan also made a statement clarifying the question of whether the film was inspired by Sonam Wangchuk.

No Re-Release for 3 Idiots

The makers of the film 3 Idiots have denied the reports suggesting a possible re-release in the theatres. Vidhu Vinod Chopra Productions took to their official Instagram handle today, July 22, 2026. They posted a story refuting and said, “Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films would like to clarify that these reports are false and factually incorrect.” The statement came in reference to a possible release of the 2009 epic on Teacher’s Day.

Aamir Khan On 3 Idiots’ Inspiration

At the London Film Festival, Aamir Khan revealed that   is not based on Sonam Wangchuk. He addressed the widespread belief that took over the internet when Sonam went on an indefinite hunger strike, and the 3 Idiots cast remained silent.

“That is a misconception,” said Aamir, revealing that he was not aware of the educationist when the film was being shot. The Lagaan actor also defied the claims made by Omi Vaidya (Chatur), who addressed Sonam as Phungsuk Wangdu.

Aamir revealed that neither Rajkumar Hirani nor Abhijat Joshi, the writers of the film, were aware of him. He later appreciated Sonam Wangchuk for his work and said, the film 3 Idiots does not need to be inspired by him to earn the respect. “I wanted to share this from a factual point of view,” concluded Aamir. These were later revealed to be contradictory.
