A huge tree fell on the Assam-Agartala National Highway due to heavy rains in Tripura. Due to this incident in Barmura area, the traffic on the road came to a complete halt and hundreds of vehicles got stuck. However, after about half an hour of effort the road was cleared.

Agartala (Tripura) [भारत]July 11 (ANI): Vehicular movement on the Assam-Agartala National Highway came to a complete standstill after a huge tree fell in the middle of the road near Bankumari Temple in Barmura area on Saturday. The fallen tree completely blocked both sides of the highway, trapping hundreds of vehicles and causing massive traffic jams. Due to the closure of the road, commuters including passengers and transport operators faced a lot of inconvenience.

Traffic restored in half an hour

Upon receiving the information, local officials and emergency personnel reached the spot and started efforts to restore normal traffic by removing the tree.

Speaking to ANI, the police officer said, “As soon as information about the incident was received, we immediately reached the spot to clear the way for traffic by cutting the fallen tree. The blockage lasted for about half an hour. However, there was a slight delay in our arrival as we were patrolling at another place at the time, but we cleared the way and allowed the vehicles to pass. The incident took place in the Barmura-Bankumari area.”

It is believed that this incident happened due to continuous rains and strong winds in this area. (ANI)
