Actor Randeep Hooda flagged off the walkathon of the Income Tax Department in Mumbai. Hooda, who recently won the National Award for ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’, gave the message of health and tax awareness and described walking as the best exercise.
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [भारत]July 19 (ANI): Actor-filmmaker Randeep Hooda flagged off a walkathon organized by the Income Tax Department, Mumbai region on Sunday as part of the celebrations of the 167th Income Tax Day. The civic event took place soon after Hooda won the Best Debut Director award for his biopic drama ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ at the 72nd National Film Awards.
Emphasis on health and civic responsibility
Speaking at the fitness event, Hooda highlighted the dual importance of personal health and civic responsibility. Speaking to the media, Hooda said, “Today a walkathon has been organized to commemorate the 167th Income Tax Day, which is celebrated every year on July 24.” He further said, “This program gives the message of fitness, health and awareness about the Income Tax Department; it also highlights our contribution to nation-building through the taxes we pay. I don’t know why people are scared; everyone should just do their duty.”
Told walking to be the best exercise
The actor also shared his personal opinion on physical health and described walking as the best form of exercise. He said, “I have done many types of workouts, gone to the gym and played many sports, but ultimately I realized that walking is the best exercise. If you can’t do anything else, walking for 30 to 45 minutes every day is extremely beneficial.”

This public appearance of Hooda has come during an important phase of his film career. The 72nd National Film Awards, which recognize excellence in Indian cinema in feature films, non-feature films and writing on cinema, honored him for his directorial debut. Responding to the honour, Hooda said that he is still assimilating the honour, and described the film as the most challenging project of his career.
Hooda said of his win, “I am very grateful. I have worked very hard,” adding, “Through this project, I got the opportunity to bring the biography and ideas of Swatantra Veer Savarkar to a new generation. I worked very hard on it; I handled the acting, writing and direction, and in the end I also produced it. So, I am very grateful.”
About the film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’
The acclaimed film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ depicts the life of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Along with Hooda in the lead role, the film also stars actresses Ankita Lokhande and Amit Sial. The film’s historical subject, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, was born on May 28, 1883 in Bhagur. For his protests against British policies, he was sentenced to two consecutive life terms in the infamous ‘Kala Pani’ (Cellular Jail) located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1911, which was equivalent to 50 years’ imprisonment.
