Bengaluru (Karnataka) [भारत]July 19 (ANI): Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday visited the residence of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and paid his last respects to his wife Chennamma. Chennamma died due to illness at a private hospital in Bengaluru, Karnataka on Saturday.
The former chief minister visited HD Deve Gowda’s residence in the evening and paid his last respects to Chennamma. He described Chennamma as a pillar of strength who stood by her family in every phase of life and politics.
Many leaders including Siddaramaiah expressed grief
Siddaramaiah in a post on Amidst the ups and downs, she handled the responsibilities of a large family and played the role of an ideal housewife.”
The post further said, “Despite being the wife of a former Prime Minister, Chennamma treated everyone warmly and without any pretense, leading a fulfilling life as an exemplary wife. May God Deve Gowda, who has lost his long-time companion in these last years of his life, have the strength to bear this loss. My condolences to the members of the Gowda family. I share in their grief. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also condoled Chennamma’s demise and expressed his condolences to HD Deve Gowda, HD Kumaraswamy and the bereaved family. In a post on Twitter, Gandhi said, “Deeply saddened by the demise of Smt. Chennamma, wife of former Prime Minister Shri HD Deve Gowda ji. Her strength was an abiding presence during her decades of public service.” He further said, “My heartfelt condolences to Deve Gowda ji, Kumaraswamy ji and the entire bereaved family.”
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also condoled Chennamma’s demise. In a post on X, he said, “The news of the demise of Smt. Chennamma ji, wife of former Prime Minister, Rev. Shri H.D. Deve Gowda ji, is extremely heart-wrenching.” He further said, “I pray to God to rest the departed soul at His holy feet and grant strength and patience to the bereaved family to bear this unbearable loss.
