On the morning of July 18, the police forcibly picked up Sonam Wangchuk, who was on hunger strike, and took her to Safdarjung Hospital. 1- Neha Bora
Neha, associated with All India Students Association (AISA) along with Sonam Wangchuk, is also on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for the last 21 days. Due to being hungry for a long time, Neha has been advised to be admitted to the hospital due to hypoglycemia. JNU’s PhD scholar Neha Bora said that their agitation will continue despite the police action. According to Neha Bora, some people reached the protest site in plain clothes around 7 am on Saturday morning. A few minutes later, a large number of policemen reached there and forcibly took Sonam Wangchuk away from there in the name of medical examination. Neha Bora alleged that after taking away Wangchuk, the police also tried to remove other students who were on hunger strike. He said that the police tried to enter the protest site by removing the ropes around it and also tried to detain the students who were on hunger strike.
2- Amen
Along with Sonam Wangchuk, Amen of All India Student Association (AISA) is also sitting on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for the last 21 days. Amen’s health is also continuously deteriorating. Amen said, the police first came in civil dress and took them away forcibly. But when they came to pick us up, our friends strongly opposed it. Some people also got hurt. Our hunger strike will continue like this. You all reached Jantar Mantar in maximum numbers on 20th July.
3- Comrade Manish
The third person who is on hunger strike along with Sonam Wangchuk is Comrade Manish. According to Manish, on Saturday morning when we all were sleeping, Delhi Police forcefully took away Sonam Wangchuk. The way dead bodies are taken away, they were taken away from here. This action of Delhi Police is very shameful. Our comrades together fought the police bravely and prevented them from taking us away. People should reach Jantar Mantar in maximum numbers for the march to be held on 20th July. So that this government bent on dictatorship can be taught a lesson.
Protestors formed human chain
According to ANI report, student protesters formed a human chain around the protest site following the police action. Its purpose was to prevent the police from taking away the remaining hunger striking students from there.
The movement reached its third week
This movement has now reached its third week. The protesters are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the NEET paper leak case. After Sonam Wangchuk was taken to the hospital, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke also announced to launch an indefinite hunger strike. He said that Sonam Wangchuk is not a criminal. If there was concern about his health then he should have been taken to the hospital with respect. He raised questions as to why he was taken away covered with sheets.
What are the main demands of the protesters?
- Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
- Along with this, the organization demands that a compensation of Rs 1 crore should be given to the families of the students who lost their lives due to alleged irregularities related to the examination.
- The organization has also announced to take out a peaceful march to Parliament on July 20, the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament.
