Mother Parvati was the first to fast
According to the legend, Parvati ji, daughter of mountain king Himalaya, first observed the fast of Hariyali Teej. Mother Parvati had a desire to have Lord Bholenath as her husband. For this the mother performed rigorous penance for 107 births. Then in his 108th birth, Bholenath fulfilled his wish. It is believed that Lord Bholenath had accepted the penance and prayer of Mother Parvati on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of the month of Sawan. Therefore, Hariyali Teej is celebrated every year on this date.
Importance of Hariyali Teej
According to beliefs, by observing the fast of Hariyali Teej, married women get the blessings of their husband’s long life and happy married life, because every married woman wants that just as the pair of Mahadev and Mata Parvati is formed, in the same way, they should also remain with their husbands forever.
