New Delhi: In a saddening incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, a woman died by suicide after her live-in-partner refused to marry her. The woman blamed the man, who is a cop, in a video message she left behind before taking the extreme step. She claimed that he promised to marry her, but refused later, after being in a relationship for years. He also allegedly tortured her.

‘4 years live-in, now he is marrying someone else’: Woman

According to a report in NDTV, the woman claimed to have been in a live-in relationship with JV Gautam, a constable in UP Police for 4 years. She claimed that they lived as husband and wife for 4 years, but now, her partner (Gautam) was marrying someone else.

According to the woman, Gautam mentally and physically tortured her for years and then refused to marry her. When she went to the police station to file a complaint, the policemen there reportedly refused to register a complaint and told her that nothing would happen to Gautam as he was a cop.

The woman said that Gautam, refused marriage telling her that his family would not accept her as his wife. She alleged that not only had Gautam tortured her mentally for years, but also his family had done the same. She claimed that both of them together (Gautam and his family) had pushed her to the edge and now she was being forced to take her own life.

The woman said that while one of Gautam’s relatives was backing their marriage, the constable himself was refusing to marry her, saying that his family won’t accept her. The woman pleaded with her partner to not deceive a girl.

The woman said in her video, “JV Gautam and his family are entirely responsible for my death. They have manipulated me so much, they have deceived me so much that they have forced me to die.”

The woman then appealed to UP CM, Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi to ensure that she gets justice. She said, “I did not get justice while alive, but I hope that I will get it after my death.”

Reports claimed that the woman hailed from Kasganj district in the state. She was divorced from her husband and was employed in the private sector in Agra. It was in Agra that she met the constable.

Constable suspended

After the video went viral and came to the notice of senior officials of the UP Police, constable JV Gautam was suspended. The police have also registered an FIR in the matter, following a complaint from the woman’s father.

The police are now investigating the matter. Her family is in deep shock and grief following her death. They demanded the strictest possible punishment for the accused cop, who betrayed their daughter and demanded justice for her.
