According to the Panchang, this time the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Chaitra month will start from 01.54 am on Tuesday night of March 10 and will continue till 04.19 am on Thursday, March 12. Since the sunrise of Ashtami Tithi will be on March 11 and will remain the same throughout the day, hence the festival of Sheetala Ashtami will be celebrated on this day. Many auspicious yogas will also be formed on this day, due to which the importance of this festival will increase even more.

Why do we eat cold food on Shitala Ashtami?

Story of Shitala Ashtami
Many stories related to Sheetala Mata fast are popular. One of them is this: ‘Once upon a time there lived an old woman in a village. He was a great devotee of Sheetala Mata. Every time on Sheetala Ashtami she would worship Sheetala Devi and follow all the rules. No one else in the village worshiped Sheetala Devi. One day there was a massive fire in the entire village but the old mother’s house remained safe. When people asked the reason for this, he told, ‘I am a devotee of Sheetala Mata, hence even fire could not harm me.’ Hearing this, all the people of the village started worshiping Goddess Shitala.
