Raipur. Chhattisgarh, famous for paddy production, is now moving rapidly towards crop diversification, digital technology and environment-friendly farming, moving beyond traditional farming. Under the state government’s ambitious scheme ‘Nava Anjor Vision 2047’, a comprehensive strategy has been prepared to increase the income of farmers and modernize the agriculture sector.
In a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Union Agriculture Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi, Agriculture Minister Ram Vichar Netam and Agriculture Production Commissioner Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi shared information about the state’s agricultural plans and future strategy.
Government’s focus on economic upliftment of 40 lakh farmer families
Agriculture Minister Ram Vichar Netam said that the agricultural system of Chhattisgarh is now going through a phase of major change. The state government is committed to the economic development of about 40 lakh farmer families. Of these, 82 percent are small and marginal farmers, while 31 percent farmers belong to the Scheduled Tribe category.
He said that a record increase of 76 percent has been recorded in pulses production in the year 2025-26. At the same time, the area under oilseed crops has expanded by more than 28 thousand hectares. For Kharif 2026, preparations are being made to promote the cultivation of tur, urad and moong on a cluster based model.
The minister said that the government’s aim is to provide timely quality seeds and balanced fertilizers to the farmers, so that farming can become more profitable.
Agricultural system is changing due to digital technology and scientific farming
Agriculture Production Commissioner Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi said that the picture of farming in the state is changing due to scientific technology, digital system and strong agricultural infrastructure. The entire preparation for Kharif 2026 is being done on scientific and technology based model.
He informed that fertilizers are being provided to the farmers as per the recommendations of agricultural universities. Small farmers are being given fertilizer in lump sum, while to prevent black marketing of urea and ensure balanced use, a system has been made to distribute fertilizer to big farmers in a phased manner.
Nano DAP, SSP and NPK complexes are being rapidly promoted as alternatives to DAP in the state. Also, the entire procurement and verification process has been made transparent through Agristack, Digital Crop Survey and Integrated Farmer Portal.
Record increase in pulses and oilseeds production
Agriculture Production Commissioner said that 76 percent increase in pulses production is a big achievement for the state. At the same time, due to the distribution of mustard, soybean and groundnut seeds under the National Edible Oil Mission and Oilseeds Mission, the area of oilseed crops has increased by more than 28 thousand hectares. Apart from this, work is also being done rapidly on cluster based horticulture model for fruit, vegetable and spice crops.
Special emphasis on natural farming and soil health
Natural farming has been expanded to 23,050 hectare area in the state. For this, help of 461 clusters and 922 Krishi Sakhis is being taken. Under the Soil Health Mission, 2.81 lakh Soil Health Cards have been distributed in the year 2025-26. To connect the new generation with farming, soil testing labs have also been established in 126 PM Shri schools of the state.
Drone technology and smart irrigation will reduce the cost of farming
Micro irrigation is being promoted under the ‘Per Drop More Crop’ scheme. To reduce the cost of farming, drone technology and integrated farming system i.e. crop, animal husbandry and fisheries based models are being encouraged. The government is also preparing to run a special Kisan Credit Card campaign during June-July 2026. Under PM Asha Yojana, work is being done to ensure 100% purchase of pulses and oilseed crops at the minimum support price.
Demand for special agricultural package from central government
Agriculture Minister Ram Vichar Netam also presented many important proposals to the Central Government in the conference. He said that Chhattisgarh is a paddy-oriented state, hence a separate incentive policy should be made to promote crop diversification. He also raised the demand for setting a separate minimum support price for products related to natural and organic farming.
Apart from this, demands were also made for timely supply of fertilizers, special subsidy on Nano Urea and Nano DAP, 25 kg fertilizer bags for small farmers and special agricultural package for tribal and rain-fed areas.
