Mythological secret of adding wood in Holika Dahan

Holika was the aunt of Prahlad, a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. The story of devotee Prahlad is considered to be the basis of the festival of Holika Dahan. According to the story, Holika had received a boon from Lord Brahma that fire would not burn her. This was the reason that at the behest of Hiranyakashipu, she sat on the fire with Prahlad, but by the grace of Lord Vishnu, Prahlad was saved and Holika herself got burnt.

This incident is considered a symbol of the victory of good over evil. Burning of wood is considered symbolic of the same event, hence wood is added to the fire of Holika. It means surrendering ego, injustice and negativity into the fire.
