New Delhi: Israel, with the backing of the United States, launched missile attacks on Saturday against Iran. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that they have “embarked on an operation to remove the existential threat posed by the terrorist regime in Iran.”
Khamenei moved to a secure location
Also, Netanyahu thanked US President Donald Trump “for his historic leadership.” He added, “For 47 years, the Ayatollah regime has called for ‘Death to Israel’ and ‘Death to America.’ It has spilled our blood, murdered many Americans, and massacred its own people.”
Amid such a scenario, questions have been raised about Khamenei’s whereabouts and so far, there has been no statement from Iran on it. Recently, massive protests broke out in Iran that left more than 2,500 people dead. Israel has claimed that the IDF targeted offices of Khamenei and the assembly of experts, the body that chooses the Iranian supreme leader.
According to a report by Reuters, Khamenei was not in Tehran when the attack began and was moved to a secure location. That raises the question of Iran knew about the impending attack beforehand and hence got the chance to move its supreme leader to a secure place.
Meanwhile, Trump, in a video message on X, said, “Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, a vicious group of very hard, terrible people.” He added, “Its (Iran’s) menacing activities directly endanger the United States and our allies throughout the world. It has been mass terror and we are not going to put up with it any longer.”
