New Delhi: Two minor boys appeared before a judge on Wednesday and repeated their earlier statements alleging sexual exploitation in a case linked to Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand, according to Prayagraj Police sources.
The children stood by their previous accounts given to the police. One of the boys told the court that the alleged abuse took place at multiple locations, including Joshimath, Kedarnath, the Kumbh Mela and the Magh Mela. Police sources said medical examinations have supported the statements of the minors, adding weight to the evidence collected so far.
Families under pressure
The two minors come from very poor families. Police sources said their fathers are under severe stress and fear due to alleged pressure from supporters of the religious leader. This has created tension in their villages and made the families anxious about the outcome of the case.
Officials said the families feel vulnerable and are worried about possible backlash. Despite this, the minors repeated their allegations before the judge.
Police move with caution
The investigation is being carried out carefully due to the high-profile nature of the case. Police have not issued any fresh notices so far. They also have no immediate plan to visit Varanasi, sources said.
The case is under the direct supervision of the Prayagraj Commissioner. Additional Police Commissioner Ajay Pal Sharma is regularly reviewing updates from the Investigating Officer and the ACP. Officials said they want to ensure that every step follows legal procedure.
Bail plea hearing crucial
The Allahabad High Court will hear Avimukteshwaranand’s anticipatory bail plea on February 26. Police sources said they will decide their next steps after the court’s order.
While there are indications that more victims could come forward, the investigation is currently focused only on the two minors. Officials said this approach will help them build a strong case based on verified evidence.
