Girlfriend got job in three weeks
Meanwhile, his girlfriend Anna Hasselboeck was looking for a job in Austria. The situation there was completely opposite. In just three weeks, he got three interviews and a job offer. During the conversation, Ana told her family dentist about her and Tamer’s job search. The dentist said that his health center is expanding and there can be work for both of them. From here Tamer’s life took a new turn.
Village with population of 400 becomes new home for Tamer
In April 2025, Temer shifted to a small town in the Lower Austria region of Austria. The population of this place is only 400. The entire village consists of one road and one restaurant, which is run by Anna’s parents. Now Tamer is working as a digital orthodontic technician at the health center, while Ana is the office manager there.
Half the cost, double the comfort
In London, where rent for a one-bedroom flat was up to 1,300 pounds, here a three-bedroom apartment is available for 800 pounds. Weekly grocery expenses have also dropped from £100 to £50. Due to less expenditure, both are now able to save a good amount. Tamer says he likes the peace, clean air and simple life here. However, there is a truth associated with the peace of the village, loneliness. Tamer says that sometimes when he goes out for a walk, he does not see anyone around. He misses his family and pet cat. He especially regrets not being able to spend time with his sister’s children.
Language becomes a challenge
The biggest problem after coming to Austria was the language. Tamer tried to learn German for four-five months, but he is still not completely comfortable. Many times they have to resort to gestures to talk to colleagues.

Decision changed after Brexit
Earlier the plan was that Anna would shift to London, but after Brexit the visa rules became stricter. In contrast, it was easier for Temer to get a visa to Austria because he already had a job offer. Now both are happy with their decision and Tamer is preparing to extend the visa in future.
Big lesson: Opportunities are not always found in big cities.
