The shop of M/s BG Goyal & Company located in Market Yard, Pune has been asked to remain closed till further orders. This action was taken after investigation by Maharashtra FDA. Officials say that during the investigation there is suspicion of violation of the Food Safety and Standards Act. Also, the shop had not updated the necessary information related to its license despite the rules.

Goods worth ₹8.14 lakh seized

During the investigation, FDA officials took samples of turmeric powder, sesame seeds and soybean pieces of ‘Sant’ and ‘Sadhu’ brands. A total of 4,172 kg of food products were seized, worth Rs 8.14 lakh. There is suspicion of violation of labeling rules and adulteration. All the samples have been sent to the lab for testing. Further action will be decided only after the report comes.

Allegation of violation of rules

According to the FDA, this action was taken because the company was allegedly not following many important rules related to food safety. Apart from the suspicion of adulteration, the investigating officers also found several deficiencies in the documents related to the license. As of now, the shop has been issued a ‘stop-business’ notice and will remain closed until further permission from the regulator.

Case related to high-profile murder case

This regulatory action comes amid the ongoing investigation into the murder of 25-year-old Ketan Agarwal. In this case, 20-year-old Siya Goyal and 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary are accused of pushing Ketan into the moat of Lohagarh Fort in Pune district during a walk on June 18. Both the accused are currently in judicial custody. However, officials have clarified that this action of FDA is related to violation of food safety rules in the shop and it has nothing to do with the murder investigation.
