Under the Chief Minister Skill Development Scheme, more than 4.94 lakh youth got training and 2.74 lakh youth got employment in Chhattisgarh. Modern courses like AI, EV and drones also started.
On the occasion of World Youth Skill Development Day, Chhattisgarh government underlined its achievements in the field of skill development. Through the Chief Minister Skill Development Scheme, the state government is continuously making efforts to connect the youth with employment and self-employment by providing them modern training as per the needs of the industries. The government believes that in today’s times, skill is the biggest asset and there is no dearth of opportunities for the youth who have skills.
The state government is preparing the youth for future needs by starting courses based on new technologies along with traditional training. Along with this, the system for ensuring quality of training, partnership with industries and employment is also being continuously strengthened.
About 5 lakh youth got training from Chief Minister Skill Development Scheme
Since the launch of the Chief Minister Skill Development Scheme, till now 4 lakh 94 thousand 330 youth of the state have been given skill training in various employable trades. Out of these, 2 lakh 74 thousand 934 youth have been linked with employment. Presently, training is being imparted as per National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) through 375 vocational training providers across the state. These include 199 government and 176 private institutions.
Thousands of youth got training and employment in 2025-26
So far, 9,418 youth have been trained in the financial year 2025-26. Of these, 7,528 youth have got employment, while 6,679 youth are participating in various training programs. The aim of the government is not only to provide training but also to provide employment to the youth.
Modern courses like EV, AI, drone and cyber security started
Keeping in view the needs of changing times, the state government has made a major change in the format of skill training. Now the youth are being trained in modern courses related to 21st century technologies including Electric Vehicle (EV) Maintenance, Drone Operator, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI-ML), Cyber Security, Suryamitra (Solar Energy). This year, Water Distribution Operator Course has also been started, under which a plan has been made to provide multi-skill training to 2,770 youth and connect them directly with employment.
New rules implemented to increase the quality of training
The state government has made several important changes to ensure the quality of training. Now Training of Trainers (TOT) certification has been made mandatory for every trainer. Apart from this, at least seven days of on-the-job training (OJT) has been made mandatory for each trainee before assessment, so that they can get practical experience of working in industries. Face based online biometric attendance and IP based CCTV cameras have been installed in all the training centres, which has increased both monitoring and transparency of training.
Training institutes will get full payment only after employment is assured.
The special thing about the Chief Minister Skill Development Scheme is that along with training, employment has also been given priority. Before giving permission to training centres, verification of the companies and institutions providing employment is done. Not only this, 60 percent of the amount received by the training institutes is paid only when employment of the trained youth is ensured.
Skill development campaign reaching remote areas of Bastar
The state government is also providing skill development facilities to the youth of tribal and remote areas. Skill Development Centers (SDC) are being established in every development block of Bastar division. Assistant Mason course has started in Bijapur. Apart from this, six rehabilitation centers of Bastar, Dantewada, Narayanpur, Sukma, Kanker and Bijapur have been registered as vocational training providers.
Employment opportunities are increasing due to partnership with many big companies including Mahindra.
The state government has signed agreements with many reputed institutes to provide training as per the needs of the industries. Tractor mechanic training is being conducted in collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra, in which till now 101 youth have been trained and 60 are receiving training. Training in electric vehicle technology is being given in Livelihood College, Raipur in collaboration with Cyronics Technology.
Through Nandi Foundation, 1,142 women have been trained in employability skills. At the same time, special training programs are also being conducted in the tourism, hospitality and health sectors in collaboration with private institutions.
Livelihood colleges become major centers of employment and self-employment
Livelihood Colleges of the state have become a strong medium of skill development for the youth. Since 2013, 68,552 youth have been trained. Of these, 28,820 youth have got employment and 10,632 youth have got self-employment. That means a total of 39,452 youth have joined the livelihood. Currently 2,413 youth are receiving training. Under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, 13,188 youth have been trained since 2024.
Government’s focus on modern infrastructure and center of excellence
Livelihood colleges are running in 26 districts of the state. Building construction and land allotment work is going on at a fast pace in the new districts. Apart from this, 26 girls hostels and 20 boys hostels are running in the state. The process of construction of remaining hostels is going on. The government will also set up a state-of-the-art Livelihood Center of Excellence in Nava Raipur. World class training will be provided here in engineering and non-engineering fields. For this, a budget provision of Rs 2 crore has been made in the financial year 2026-27.
Recognition of youth of Chhattisgarh increased at national level also
The youth of Chhattisgarh are also showcasing their talent in national level skills competitions. 3,327 participants took part in the India Skills Competition held in the year 2025-26. Of these, 381 participants reached the state level. Chhattisgarh won a total of 12 medals including 1 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze and 4 medals of excellence in the East Zone competition held in Bhubaneswar. Three participants from the state also took part in the national level India Skills Competition, out of which one participant got the Medal of Excellence. The Government of India honored Chhattisgarh with a citation for its excellent performance.
Steps towards self-reliant Chhattisgarh through skill development
The state government believes that skill development is not limited to training only, but it is a comprehensive campaign to make the youth self-reliant, confident and employable. Through new technologies, partnership with industries, quality training, modern infrastructure and employment-based model, Chhattisgarh is emerging as a strong example for the country in the field of skill development. In the coming years, this initiative will play an important role in accelerating the goal of developed Chhattisgarh and developed India.
