Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State Jitin Prasad participated in the third India-EU Business Roundtable on Wednesday. During this, the growing partnership between India and Europe was discussed, which has now been further enhanced by the Free Trade Agreement (FTA). In a post on He praised the energy and enthusiasm for deeper trade, investment and R&D cooperation. He also emphasized that there is growing trust and comfort in India’s partnership with Europe, which has now been further strengthened by the India-EU FTA. At the same time, he also underlined the importance of businesses to fulfill the ambition and potential of this relationship.
Describing the discussions held at the roundtable, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said the talks reflect a shared commitment to expand economic engagement through deeper cooperation in trade, investment, technology and innovation. Additionally, new avenues for business partnerships were also identified.
Jaishankar meets top leaders of European Union
As talks continue between India and the EU on key areas, Jaishankar on Wednesday met Ekaterina Zaharieva, the EU Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation. They discussed research opportunities in clean and green energy technologies, innovation hubs, startups and engagement with Horizon Europe.
He also met with European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Sikella on Wednesday and talked about furthering cooperation in connectivity, trilateral partnerships, IMEC and green shipping.
Earlier, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar held wide-ranging talks with top European leaders and said New Delhi and the EU have made major progress in bilateral relations following the high-level summit in January. During her two-day official visit to Belgium from July 14 to 15, the External Affairs Minister on Tuesday held discussions with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission Vice President Kaja Kalas on a range of bilateral issues, including trade, technology, security, maritime commerce and supply chain resilience.
Jaishankar’s visit to Brussels is part of the last leg of his multi-national tour, where he held discussions with countries in West Asia and launched India’s official campaign as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2028-29 term. (ANI)
