Two policemen found murdered near India-Pak border; Bishnoi gang vows violent revenge

New Delhi: Shock and anger gripped Punjab after two policemen were found shot dead at a police post in Gurdaspur, close to the India-Pakistan border. The killings have triggered a fresh wave of tension with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang issuing an open threat on social media soon after the bodies were discovered.

Assistant Sub-Inspectors Gurnam Singh and Ashok Kumar were found with gunshot wounds to the head on Sunday, February 22. According to police, one officer was discovered slumped in a chair while the other was found under a quilt inside the post. Both were part of the second line of defence in the sensitive border district. Investigators are still piecing together what led to the attack.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tribute to the officers, calling them martyrs who died in the line of duty. He announced Rs 1 crore in ex gratia compensation for each family, with an additional Rs 1 crore insurance support from HDFC Bank.

Lawrence gang issues warning

Amid the grief, a Facebook post allegedly linked to members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang escalated concerns. The post was shared from accounts named Hari Boxer and Tyson Bishnoi, which condemned the killing of the two officers but then took a threatening turn.

It claimed the gang would avenge the deaths “with blood” and warned that those responsible would face brutal consequences. The message also included a disturbing line suggesting that videos of beheadings would be posted publicly.

The gang said it knew who was backing whom and warned that the country would soon see their response.

Investigation underway

Police have not confirmed any direct link between the social media post and the double murder. Officials say all angles are being examined including whether the threats are meant to create panic.

The security has been tightened in the area as investigators continue their probe into one of the most shocking incidents in recent months.
