A 43-year-old lawyer in Gujarat was arrested for raping his 13-year-old client. He was fighting the girl’s old rape case. He committed the crime by making the girl a domestic help in exchange for fees.
A very shameful case has come to light from Gujarat, which has raised serious questions on the safety of children in the justice system. Here a 43 year old lawyer has been arrested on charges of raping his own 13 year old minor client. Surprisingly, the accused lawyer, Pranayraj Ranveer, was fighting an old rape case of that girl in the court. The accused is a resident of Dindoli in Surat and originally hails from a village in Dholka taluka of Ahmedabad district. He was arrested on Tuesday. It is alleged that he took advantage of the financial crisis of the girl’s family and committed this heinous crime.
According to the complaint, the girl’s parents work as labourers. He had contacted lawyer Pranayraj Ranveer for legal help in his daughter’s rape case. When the family told them that they could not pay his fees, the lawyer made another proposal to them. “Ranveer had demanded Rs 15,000 as fees. When the family said they could not pay that amount, he offered to hire the girl as a domestic help in his house in exchange for her services,” said a police officer.
Police allege that when the girl went to Ranveer’s house, he first removed her clothes, forced her to perform sexual acts and then raped her. The accused also allegedly threatened the girl of dire consequences. He said that if the girl told anyone about this, it would spoil her ongoing rape case.
After receiving the complaint, Sachin GIDC police registered an FIR on Monday and arrested the accused. Ranveer has been booked under several sections of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), including rape, rape of a child below 16 years of age, hiring a child to commit a crime, causing hurt and criminal intimidation. He has also been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act for aggravated sexual assault and other related offences.
The girl’s old case dates back to September 2025, when she was allegedly kidnapped. He was found on November 23, 2025. In that case, the police alleged that the then 12-year-old girl was raped by two people, and both were later arrested. Police said that although the government lawyer was fighting the case in the old case, the girl’s father had separately hired Ranveer to help in the court proceedings.
Meanwhile, police records reveal that Ranveer has previous criminal cases registered against him. He was accused of demanding dowry and being cruel to his wife in Bavla, Ahmedabad. Apart from this, cases are also registered against him in police stations of Ahmedabad and Surat for offenses related to prohibition, rioting and other charges.
Police say that further investigation of the case is going on.
