War with one’s own: When the protector became the eater
This sensational incident came to light when Bhairappa’s wife, who is herself a lawyer by profession, gathered courage and approached the Director General of Police (DGP). A mother of five years of marriage and a three-year-old innocent daughter has leveled serious allegations of dowry harassment, domestic violence, criminal intimidation and murderous assault against her own husband. The initial years of the marriage were fine, but gradually Bhairappa’s true and cruel face began to emerge.
Suspension of bribe and ₹50 lakh craze
The hunger of this sub-inspector, who is under suspension, for money increased further when the Lokayukta arrested him in a bribery case during his posting at Subramanyapura police station in June last year. After being suspended, he started pressurizing his wife’s family for money. It is alleged that he repeatedly demanded ₹50 lakh, a luxurious house and a plot from his in-laws to settle the Lokayukta case. The oppression came to an end when the wife’s father bought two cars to fulfill her demands and gave huge sums of money several times, but Bhairappa’s brutality did not diminish. He left only two options for his wife – either bring ₹ 50 lakh from her parents’ house or divorce her with mutual consent.

Hair-raising threats and web of debauchery
The allegations made by the lawyer’s wife do not end here. Bhairappa is also accused of questioning his character, denying that he is the father of his own three-year-old daughter and having illicit relations with several other women. The limit reached when he started bringing other women to his house. When the wife protested against this, this sub-inspector, showing off his khakis, gave a direct threat of getting her killed by the criminals. He would often throw his wife and innocent daughter out of the house at midnight and would not even fulfill their basic needs.
Elderly father bled to death in front of his own people
This tale of oppression reached its most horrifying turn on July 12. That day, the woman’s elderly father had come to Bhairappa’s house to resolve the domestic dispute and save his daughter’s house. During the conversation, the argument escalated so much that Bhairappa lost his temper and fatally attacked his father-in-law with a sharp weapon. During this bloody drama, when the woman called the 112-emergency helpline, no immediate action was taken due to the influence of the police department. The woman alleged that earlier when she had gone to the local police station to complain, Bhairappa’s batchmates had tried to hush up the matter and save her by only writing a simple report (NCR) instead of registering an FIR.
The grip of law and the path of court
When the water level went above her head, the victim woman appealed to the DGP for justice. On Tuesday, after orders came from the higher level, the police finally sent the accused Sub-Inspector Bhairappa KS behind the bars. A senior police officer has confirmed that an FIR has been registered in the case under strict sections and the accused will be produced in the court soon. At present, a detailed and thorough investigation of this entire case is going on, which has proved that no matter how influential the criminal hiding behind the uniform is, he cannot escape the long hand of the law.
