Bhopal: When Congress sought answers on the death of many people due to drinking contaminated water in Indore, BJP Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya reminded them of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy. When a heated debate was going on in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly between the ruling party and the opposition over the deaths due to contaminated water in Indore, the BJP minister made this strange defense. More than 23 people had died due to contamination in drinking water in Bhagirathpura, Indore. When Congress tried to corner the government over the incident, Urban Development Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya responded by mentioning the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy. In response to the question asked on the current issue, Vijayvargiya shielded the mistake of the Congress rule.

The opposition alleged that around 23 people died due to drinking contaminated water in Indore’s Bhagirathpura between December 24, 2023 and January 6, 2024. Later, Congress MLA Sohanlal Balmiki revealed the number to be 35 in the House. Opposition leader Umang Singhar demanded that dirty water pipes were passing through sewer lines and the minister responsible for this, Kailash Vijayvargiya, should resign. After this, this strange defense of Vijayvargiya came to light.

Facing the opposition’s allegations, the minister raised the issue of Bhopal gas tragedy. Vijayvargiya alleged that 35,000 people had died in the Bhopal tragedy and that the then Congress government had helped accused Anderson escape. He also said that the victims of Bhopal have not received justice till date. When asked by the opposition to speak on today’s tragedy, the minister’s question was, ‘Do you know how big a number 35,000 is?’ Congress alleged that the government does not give any value to the lives of the poor. Congress says that the minister has used the old Bhopal incident as a weapon to divert attention from the current water pollution issue of Indore.
