US Open 2025: Carlos Alcaraz takes down Novak Djokovic to reach third consecutive Grand Slam final

New Delhi: Carlos Alcaraz continued his sensational form and qualified for the US Open 2025 men’s singles final after defeating 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. He needed just two hours and 23 minutes to register a 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-2 win at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday, September 5.

Alcaraz returned to the US Open final for the first time since his breakthrough triumph in 2022. This is his eighth consecutive final on the ATP Tour. This was the first-ever meeting between Alcaraz and Djokovic at Flushing Meadows, with the Spaniard claiming his first victory against the Serb on hard courts.

The Spaniard made a great start in the clash and broke Djokovic in the very first game to take a 1-0 lead. The Serb saved one break point at 30-40 but failed to hold off Alcaraz for the second time. Djokovic overcame a brief scare in the third game, saving a break point at 30-40 to get on the scoreboard. However, he couldn’t recover from the early break, as Alcaraz won the opening set in just 48 minutes.

Djokovic, however, didn’t give up and responded in the same style, as he broke his opponent’s serve to take a 3-0 lead. But Alcaraz made a comeback with his second break of the match before levelling at 3-3.

The Spaniard pushed the set into a tie-breaker, and once he managed to take a 2-0 lead, he never looked back. Djokovic tried to close the gap, but Alcaraz didn’t let him dominate the game. In the third set, Alcaraz took a 2-1 lead and earned his third break of the match to move ahead and quickly extended it to 4-1.

From there, it was just a matter of time before Djokovic folded. Apart from the second set, where Alcaraz trailed 0-3, he never looked under serious pressure and sealed the game with a fourth break of serve to close out the match.

‘Great feeling to reach the US Open final once again’

After the match, Alcaraz said that it is a great feeling to reach the US Open final once again, and it means a lot to him.

“It may not have been my best performance of the tournament, but I maintained a solid level from start to finish. My serve was strong today, which I think was really important. I tried to play a physical match, and I believe I did that well. Overall, I played some really good tennis, and I’m very happy to be in my second US Open final,” he added.
