Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan reviewed the Urban Development Department and gave instructions for 100% garbage separation, dump site improvement, digital governance and safe drinking water system.

Dehradun. Chief Secretary Shri Anand Bardhan conducted a detailed review of the progress of various schemes of the Urban Development Department at the Secretariat on Tuesday. During the meeting, he instructed the departmental officers that effective work should be done continuously towards making all the urban local bodies (ULBs) of the state clean, safe, climate-friendly and financially self-reliant. He said that for better urban development, it is necessary to ensure timely implementation of the schemes, so that quality facilities can be provided to the common citizens.

Solid Waste Management: Instructions for 100% waste separation and scientific processing

The Chief Secretary directed to ensure 100 percent segregation of waste at the source level in all the urban local bodies of the state. Also, emphasis was laid on fully implementing scientific waste processing. He asked to speed up the improvement and redevelopment work of old dump sites and directed the concerned officials to complete this work as soon as possible.

Self-Reliant ULB: Special emphasis on creating self-reliant urban bodies

In the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that the aim of the department is to make all the urban bodies economically strong and self-reliant. For this, it is very important to increase the administrative capacity of municipal bodies. He suggested that the concerned officers, section officers and departmental employees should be given exposure visits to better managed cities in the country and abroad. With this, they will be able to understand the functioning of modern urban management and will be able to implement better systems in their cities also.

Water Quality Monitoring: Instructions for digital monitoring of drinking water quality

The Chief Secretary directed to install water quality sensors at water sources as well as at the last end of drinking water pipelines for better monitoring of drinking water quality. He said that this will enable continuous monitoring of water quality and will help in providing safe drinking water to the citizens.

Digital Governance: Instructions to onboard all urban bodies soon

In the meeting, the Chief Secretary described digital governance as a priority for urban development and said that the department should work rapidly in this direction. He directed that all the urban local bodies of the state should be onboarded on the digital platform as soon as possible, so that transparency and efficiency in services can be increased. Secretary Shri Nitesh Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary Shri Abhishek Ruhela and other senior officers of the department were also present in the meeting.
