Important things for Mahashivratri puja
For Abhishek- Pure water, unboiled cow’s milk, honey, ghee, milk, curd, sugarcane juice etc.
For worship- Rakshasutra, white clothes, yellow mustard, Shami leaves, Bilva leaves, ghee, sugar, betel leaves, betel nuts, cloves, kumkum, incense sticks, Dhatura, Akanda flowers, mango leaves, all types of flowers (except Ketaki).
For enjoyment- Coconut, hemp, pure sweets, seasonal fruits, panchmeva etc.
Other puja materials- Lamp, cow’s ghee, Ganges water, sesame seeds, barley, sandalwood, Rudraksh, rice, Kush’s seat, yellow mustard, Shami leaves, Havan material, Havan Kund etc.

Rules of Mahashivratri worship
1. There is a rule of night worship on Mahashivratri, but common people can worship during the day also at auspicious time.
2. The fasting person should not sleep at night. One should stay awake the whole night and chant the mantras of Lord Shiva.
3. People who observe fast on Mahashivratri should not criticize or gossip about anyone on this day nor should they get angry at anyone.
4. The fasting person must break the Mahashivratri fast on the next day i.e. on 16th February, Monday.
5. On the day of Mahashivratri, behave completely virtuously with body and mind.
