Hyderabad: Telangana Police have tightened security and put in place extensive security arrangements ahead of the municipal polls on Wednesday, February 11.
In a press conference, DGP B Shivdhar Reddy said that all arrangements have been completed for 8,203 polling stations, of which 1,302 polling stations are classified as hyper sensitive, 1,926 as sensitive and 4,975 as normal.
Total seizures valued at Rs 3 crore:
Police registered at least 142 cases against election code violators and seized Rs 1.29 crore cash, liquor worth Rs 1.21 crore, and drugs valued at Rs 15.7 lakh.
About 3,000 police personnel from Telangana Police, Forest, Excise, CID and other departments were deployed. Border checks have been intensified and 20 interstate border check posts were setup along borders with four states. In addition, 55 inter-district and intra-district borders were set up, with the support of 181 flying squads and 167 surveillance teams on the ground.
The silent period started at 5 pm on Monday, February 9. Authorities said that 100% webcasting is ensured at every polling station and additional coverage will be seen outside hyper sensitive booths.
A command and control centre has been established at police headquarters in Lakdikapul, with large video wall streaming live webcasts from cameras installed across the state. Police have urged citizens to come out and exercise their right freely on election day.
