Chief Minister Revanth Reddy made serious allegations against the previous BRS government regarding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. He said that contracts for irrigation projects had allegedly become a source of commission and corruption.

Rejecting the opposition’s criticism over the current water crisis, he sarcastically said that if KCR and Harish Rao have a solution, they should also make it rain in the state. Congress alleges that the previous government left serious lapses in project implementation and cost management, the effects of which are now visible.

After Revanth Reddy’s statement, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) raised questions on the language of the Chief Minister. He said that when farmers are demanding water for irrigation, the government should provide solutions and not make inflammatory statements.

KTR, referring to another comment by the Chief Minister, asked whether farmers would be answered with “blood” if they asked for water? To register their protest, the student and youth units of BRS have also announced to run a symbolic blood donation campaign.

Former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao also hit out at the government, claiming that despite the advice of engineers and experts, the Congress government did not make effective use of the water available in the Godavari river. According to him, water could be delivered to the farmers through a temporary pumping system.
