Cases of alleged robber brides have been in the news for some time in Himachal Pradesh. In many incidents, families were targeted in the name of marriage and allegations of the newlyweds absconding with cash and jewelery shortly after reaching home came to light. A similar new case has now come to light from Gagret area of Una district, but this time this robber bride got cheated due to the vigilance of the groom’s side and ran away from home with fake jewellery. However, he was caught with his mother at a short distance.
Disappeared from home a few hours after marriage
The case pertains to a village in Gagret sub-division, where a newly married woman from Punjab suddenly went missing from home just a few hours after the completion of the marriage rituals. When the family members came to know about his absence, there was a commotion in the house. It is being told that the bride had quietly left the house at night and her mother was also with her.
The groom’s side was alert from earlier incidents
The family says that they had already taken precautions in view of such cases coming to light in recent months. The newlyweds were reportedly made to wear fake jewelery instead of real jewellery. According to family members, the bride was repeatedly inquiring about the jewelery and trying to know whether they were genuine or not. The groom’s side claims that she was made to believe that the jewelery was genuine, after which she planned to leave the house with them.
Mother and daughter were caught on the way
As soon as the family got information about the bride leaving the house, they immediately started searching for her. At a short distance the bride and her mother were seen walking on foot. The family members stopped both of them and later the entire matter was brought to the notice of the police. According to the local people, if the chase was not done in time, the matter could have turned into a big fraud like the earlier incidents.
When the truth about fake jewelery came out, she was shocked.
The family claims that the newlyweds were shocked when they found out that the jewelery they thought they were carrying was actually artificial. This was the reason that this time the entire fraud plan was foiled and the groom’s side did not have to suffer any financial loss.
The matter reached the police
Both parties were later taken to the police station, where they were interrogated. The newly married woman could not give any clear reason for not living with her husband. After this, a mutual settlement was reached between the two parties and no formal complaint was filed.
Such cases have come to light in the area before
Local people say that in recent times many cases of fraud in the name of marriage have come to light in the area. In some cases, there have been allegations of absconding with cash and jewellery, the investigation of which is still going on. Such incidents which are continuously coming to light have increased the concern of the people.
Police alerted people
Police officials have appealed to the people to exercise utmost caution while finalizing marriage relationships. He says that before finalizing any relationship, complete information and background of the concerned family must be investigated. Also, one should avoid settling relationships through unknown middlemen. Police believe that only through awareness and vigilance, such cases can be effectively stopped and families can be protected from possible fraud.
