BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari will file nomination today in Datia by-election. CM Mohan Yadav and Narottam Mishra will also be present. Angered by the denial of ticket, Mishra denied meeting any leader in Delhi, but announced support for the party candidate.
CM Yadav and Narottam Mishra will attend the nomination rally.
Madhya Pradesh BJP President Hemant Khandelwal on Sunday said that party candidate Ashutosh Tiwari will file his nomination for Datia Assembly by-election on Monday in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, former State Home Minister Narottam Mishra and thousands of party workers. He expressed confidence that the party will win the by-elections with an “overwhelming majority”.
Khandelwal said that CM Yadav, Narottam Mishra and thousands of BJP workers will participate in the nomination rally. Khandelwal told reporters here, “Ashutosh ji will file his nomination papers tomorrow. Thousands of workers will participate in the nomination rally along with our Chief Minister and Narottam Mishra ji. Thanks to the hard work of Bharatiya Janata Party workers and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and our national president Nitin Nabin ji, BJP will win this election with an overwhelming majority.”
“We have spoken to all the workers. They will all work for the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the party will get an overwhelming majority,” he said.
Narottam Mishra’s statement after ticket cancellation
Earlier in the day, Narottam Mishra said he did not meet the top BJP leadership during his visit to Delhi after not getting the party ticket for the Datia bypoll. His comments came as he traveled to the national capital after the BJP denied him ticket for the Datia assembly bypoll and fielded Ashutosh Tiwari in his place.
Mishra had contested from Datia assembly seat in the 2023 elections and lost. “I did not meet any leader,” Mishra told reporters. When asked if he had met BJP national president Nitin Nabin, he replied, “No, no such meeting took place. I was not even called.”
Narottam Mishra reiterated his support for the party’s candidate and said he would join the filing of nomination. He said, “I will definitely join Ashutosh ji in filing his nomination. I am with the Chief Minister, and I will be with Ashutosh ji when the nomination is filed.”
Narottam supporters had protested
Following the BJP’s decision to deny ticket to Mishra, his supporters protested in Datia on Saturday, where protesters blocked National Highway-44 for about 11 hours. Eight policemen were injured in stone pelting and traffic movement was affected in four districts during the protests.
Why is by-election being held in Datia?
Datia assembly seat had become vacant after the disqualification of Rajendra Bharti on April 2. This disqualification was done under the provisions of Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and Article 191(1)(e) of the Constitution.
The Election Commission of India has announced that voting for the Datia Assembly by-election will take place on July 30, while the counting of votes will take place on August 3. (ANI)
