Hanuman Temple Namakkal
Devotees of Lord Ram always worship Hanuman ji. It is believed among the devotees that just by worshiping Hanuman ji, one gets the blessings of Sitaram, Lakshman, Lord Shiva and Shani. This is the reason why there is a temple of Hanuman ji in almost every village. Although there are many famous Hanuman temples in the country, but Namakkal Hanuman Temple of Tamil Nadu holds special significance. This temple is called Anjaneya Swamy, which is situated at the foothills of Namakkal hill in the center of the district. Here the idol of Hanumanji is seen in a standing position. This statue, about 20 feet high, is the main attraction of the temple.
There is a belief about the temple that after killing Hiranyakashipu, Lord Narasimha had appeared to Lord Hanuman in this area, that is why the idol of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha is present in front of Lord Anjaneya. It is also recorded in the history of the temple that Lord Hanuman appeared in Swayambhu form in Namakkal.
A unique feature of Namakkal Hanuman Temple is that it does not have a roof. It is said that all previous attempts to build a roof have failed. Apart from this, the priests and devotees of the temple believe that the idol of Hanuman ji here is increasing day by day, hence it is believed that it is not possible to put a roof on the temple. Another unique thing is that the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple located in front of it also does not have a roof.
History of the temple
This temple with a history of about 1500 years is located in the lower part of Namakkal Fort. Hanuman temple is about a hundred meters away from Narasimha Swamy temple. Here Anjaneya is depicted with folded hands and paying obeisance to Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. This form has given special identity to Namakkal Hanuman.
Other features of the temple
The temples of Narasimha Swamy and Ranganatha Swamy are situated on both sides of the Namagiri Fort, built by Ramachandra Nayak in the 16th century. These statues carved from rock are perfectly preserved even today. Another specialty is that lotus flowers bloom in all seasons in the eight ponds located in the hills.
Worship is done 4 times daily in the temple.
Four pujas are performed daily at Namakkal Hanuman Temple. Kalasandhi puja is performed at 8 am, Uchikala puja at 12 noon, Sairaksha puja at 6 pm and Ardhajama puja at 8:45 pm. Hanuman Jayanti and Shri Ram Navami festivals are celebrated with great pomp. Special pujas are also performed every month on the day of Purvabhadra Nakshatra, the birth constellation of Hanuman ji.
