New Delhi: App-based cabs and autorickshaw services are likely to be hit across several parts of India on Saturday as gig workers linked to ride-hailing platforms such as Ola, Uber and Rapido have announced a nationwide strike today to press various demands.
The strike — All India Breakdown — has been called by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU). The union represents app-based transport workers working with cab aggregators like Ola and Uber.

Ola, Uber drivers’ 6-hour strike
In a post on X, the union said on Wednesday that app-based transport workers across the country would log out of ride-hailing apps for six hours on February 7 to protest against what it described as unfair pricing practices and weak regulation.
The union had also written to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari earlier this week, and brought to his notice the “long-pending and unresolved issues” faced by app-based transport workers across India, including drivers and riders associated with Ola, Uber, Rapido, Porter, and other aggregator platforms operating autos, cabs, and bike taxis.
Why Ola, Uber drivers are on strike
The TGPWU, in its letter, said that in the absence of government-regulated fare structures, aggregator companies “unilaterally” fix fares, leading to severe “income insecurity, exploitation, and unsustainable working conditions” for millions of transport workers.
It also pointed out that the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025 clearly mandate “regulatory oversight, fare transparency, and protection of driver livelihoods”, and requested that the guidelines should be “effectively implemented” through enforceable central and state-level notifications.
“As a mark of protest against continued policy inaction and to assert our legitimate demands, app-based transport workers across the country will observe an All-India Breakdown on 7 February 2026,” the letter reads.
The gig workers’ union also urged the concerned authorities to initiate immediate dialogue with worker representatives to ensure fair, lawful, and sustainable regulation of the app-based transport sector.
What are the demands of Ola, Uber drivers?
1.Immediate notification of minimum base fares by the Central and State Governments for app-based transport services (autos, cabs, bike taxis, and other aggregator-based services), to be finalised in consultation with recognised driver and worker unions, in line with the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.
2. Strict prohibition on the use of private (non-commercial) vehicles for commercial passenger and goods transport, or alternatively, mandatory conversion of such vehicles into commercial category vehicles, in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act, Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, and applicable rules.
