As the festival of Holi approaches, preparations to return home intensify across the country. Heavy crowding and long waiting lists are common during this period, especially in trains going towards Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. In view of this problem of passengers, Indian Railways has taken a big and relief decision this time. To provide easy, safe and comfortable travel to the passengers on the occasion of Holi, Railways has decided to operate 1410 Holi special trains (trips) across the country.
The role of East Central Railway (ECR) is being considered most important in this special campaign. East Central Railway alone will operate 285 Holi special trains. These trains will be run on different routes between March 1 and March 22, 2026, which will reduce the pressure on passengers during the festival to a great extent. Detailed information about these trains has been shared in the press release issued by Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway.
A special train is being run between Kota (Sogaria) to Danapur for passengers traveling between Rajasthan and Bihar. Train No. 0982128 will depart from Sogaria at 23.10 hrs on 8th February and 7th March 2026 and will reach Danapur at 23.45 hrs the next day via Katni, Prayagraj Chhivki and DDU. On the return journey, train number 09822 will leave from Danapur at 01.15 pm on March 2 and March 9 and will reach Sogaria at 01.10 am the next day.
Holi special train is also being run between Rani Kamalapati (Bhopal) to Danapur for passengers going from Madhya Pradesh to Bihar. Train No. 01667 will depart from Rani Kamalapati station at 14.25 hrs on 27th February and 2nd March and will reach Danapur at 08.45 am the next day. In return, train number 01668 will leave from Danapur at 11.15 am on 28th February and 3rd March and will reach Rani Kamalapati station at 08.55 am the next day. Railways has also made arrangements for direct trains for the passengers going to North-East during Holi. Train number 01665 will depart from Rani Kamlapati every Thursday at 15.20 pm from March 5 and will reach Agartala at 18.55 pm on the third day via DDU, Patliputra and Hajipur. In return, train number 01666 will depart from Agartala every Sunday from 8th March at 17.20 pm and will reach Rani Kamlapati at 16.35 pm on the third day.
Holi special train is also being run between Hapa to Naharlagun for those traveling between Gujarat and North-East India. Train number 09525 will depart from Hapa at 00.40 pm every Wednesday from March 4 and will reach Naharlagun at 16.00 pm on the third day via Varanasi, Chhapra and Hajipur. In return, train number 09526 will depart from Naharlagun at 09.40 am on every Saturday from March 7 and reach Hapa at 00.30 pm on the fourth day. Railways has appealed to the passengers to plan their journey well in time and check the status of the train before travelling. These special trains are no less than a big relief for the migrants returning to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh from big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kota and Bhopal during Holi. Especially the passengers of stations like Hajipur, Danapur, Patliputra and Barauni will get direct benefit from this. This step of the Railways will not only control the crowd, but will also facilitate the travel of lakhs of passengers on the occasion of festival.
