Jennifer Lopez set the stage on fire at the 2025 American Music Awards with a bold and buzzworthy opening act that left fans stunned. During her six-minute performance at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on Monday night (May 26), the 55-year-old pop icon kissed both a male and a female backup dancer, an unexpected moment that quickly went viral on social media.
Wearing a nude, sparkling jumpsuit and her signature honey-blonde hair styled sleek and straight, Lopez powered through some of the year’s hottest tracks. She danced to hits like Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us, Bad Bunny’s NUEVAYoL, Billie Eilish’s Birds of a Feather, Doechii’s Denial Is a River, Shaboozey’s A Bar Song, and APT by Bruno Mars and BLACKPINK’s Rosé.
But it was her steamy kiss which began as she performed Teddy Swims’ Lose Control, that stole the show. Lopez ended the set with a mash-up of Not Like Us and TV Off, a tribute to Kendrick Lamar, who received the most nominations of the night.
The daring moment drew an immediate reaction from the audience and celebrities.
Comedian Tiffany Haddish, who took the stage shortly after to present the R&B Song category, joked, “Save a dancer for me, J.Lo, d***! You ain’t the only one that’s single.”
Lopez, who recently divorced actor Ben Affleck, was announced as this year’s AMAs host back in April. It marked her second time emceeing the ceremony, a decade after her hosting debut in 2015. She has graced the AMAs stage with performances more than 10 times throughout her storied career.
Ahead of the event, Lopez spoke to E! News about preparing for her hosting comeback. “I’ve been rehearsing for a couple of weeks,” she said of her first big TV performance in a while. “I took last year off and I went back in and my first thing was doing a movie. So, this is getting back into my performance mode in a way,” Lopez added.
Excited to return to the spotlight, she added, “We’re going to be celebrating all the music of the year.”
The 2025 American Music Awards aired live from the Fontainebleau Las Vegas on CBS and Paramount+.
