New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir refused to answer a question on Pakistan’s decision to boycott their match against India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. India are scheduled to lock horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in a marquee clash in Colombo on February 15. However, dark clouds hover over the game after the Pakistan government announced their men’s national team won’t take the field against India in the tournament.
Pakistan’s boycott stance has led to a fresh standoff with the International Cricket Council (ICC), with just days left for the T20 World Cup 2026 to get underway. The tournament is set to start on Saturday, February 07, with Pakistan opening their campaign against Netherlands on the same day.
Gambhir was leaving for Mumbai on Tuesday when he was approached by some reporters at the airport. India will play their warm-up game against South Africa in Mumbai before taking on USA in their T20 World Cup 2026 opener at the Wankhede Stadium.
The India head coach expressed his gratitude to the media personnel for their best wishes for the Indian team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. However, he ignored the question when asked about Pakistan’s decision to boycott their clash against India in the tournament. Gambhir walked away after avoiding the question.
