Budget 2026: 8th Pay Commission will not come in the year 2026? Indication found in the budget

8th pay commission

Central employees had high expectations regarding 8th pay commission from Budget 2026. But the Finance Minister did not make any direct announcement on this. There are reports that it will be implemented this year itself, but such data has come out regarding the expenditure in Budget 2026, due to which it is being speculated that it is possible that the 8th Pay Commission may be suspended this year also?

Actually, the government gave details about the entire upcoming expenditure in the budget, in which the government also released the data of establishment expenditure, which is Rs 824114 crore for the financial year 2026-27 and that is Rs 41,413 crore more than Rs 782701 last year. The amount of increase in expenditure is nominal compared to the expenditure incurred in pay commission. Because so much of the government’s money can be spent only on new appointments and giving DA. Also, the government has not specified any separate budget for 8th pay commission. In such a situation, it is being estimated that the path to implementation of the 8th Pay Commission in this financial year may be difficult.

employees are waiting

With the beginning of the year 2026, about 1.19 crore central employees and pensioners are expected to get a salary increase from the 8th Pay Commission. Everyone wants to know when the message of increased salary will finally come. Due to increasing inflation, the demand for improvement in fitment factor is also increasing, but the reality is that it may take time for the salary to increase.

When was the announcement made?

The government had definitely announced the formation of the 8th Pay Commission on January 15, 2025, but after this the process was very slow. About 10 months later, on 28 October 2025, its official gazette notification was released. It is clearly written in this notification that the Commission will get 18 months time to submit its report.

If 18 months are added from October 2025, then the Commission’s report is likely to come by July 2027. After the report comes, the government will take some time to take a decision on it and implement it. Therefore, the actual benefit of salary increase can be expected from mid-2027 or early 2028 only. The government has given a similar indication in the budget also. Because if the expenditure is not increased this time then it is possible that there may be some announcement for the 8th Pay Commission in Budget 2027.
